From Humble Beginnings...

In 1657, the Arogonese knight Martin de Redin, was elected Grand Master of the Knights of St. John, also known as the Knights of Malta, and his gift to the Order, was his undertaking to construct, at his own expense, 13 watchtowers to re-enforce the defences of the coastal areas.

The towers consist of a quadrilateral structure of solid masonry with two storeys. They were built in such a way that each tower was within sight of the next so that when one tower saw approaching a raiding party far out at sea, the signal was passed to the next tower and started a chain alert from one point to the next. Signals were given from the roof by means of smoke during the day and by bonfires during the night.

This is the 5th Tower in the series.

What Our Guests Say...

Due to a bomb scare we went for an early dinner and It-Torri was close but so good we re-visited again 4 times in 8 days. The pizza is fantastic, the local wine is amazing (much improved), the staff are so friendly and willing to discuss dishes and the view – gorgeous! I highly recommend the pizza, the seafood platter for two was orgasmic (we did ask for extra razor clams) and the chicken tortelloni is brilliant but large! The staff were brilliant especially the Czech lad – David. It also transpired that on our trip to a local fishing village we had met the owners’ relatives which led to much discussion and a discount!
